wheel of Emotions-Anxiety

Some time back I had a client, a budding writer, making the transition from a corporate job. Their main concern was anxiety and resultant frustration arising as a result of this change. They had believed when making the move that it would be easier working from home, and the work life balance would be much better. Also, the constant stress and anxiety of meeting targets of their previous corporate world would now be over, and the belief was that life would be smooth sailing henceforth. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.
The client was now unable to draw clear lines to differentiate work life from home life and was always worried that both worlds were suffering due to that. They felt they weren’t being able to concentrate on their writing nor were they able to give quality time to their two young children and spouse. They were suffering from constant #anxiety about not being able to achieve any of their self-appointed targets nor have a healthy home life. While talking to her I understood that they were frustrated, irritable, had become short-tempered and were experiencing constant anxiety because they were unable to convert plans into actions, and suffering from #fearoffailure both as a parent and as an aspiring writer.
As a Coach my job was to help and support them to overcome their #fearoffailure #fearofthefuture and help them work through their #anxiety.
At the end of our first session, I asked them to start a daily #journal of their #thoughts and #emotions. This would help in tapping their #emotionalquotient and make them more #selfaware. This also works in creating a little “me” time for the client when they only concentrate on themselves.
When we met for our second session, I was able to help and support the client to come up with their own solutions to deal with their anxiety and frustration. They came up with the idea of creating daily to do lists and list out clear, achievable short-term goals.
Another important take-away for the client was to have a clear dedicated space and time allotted for their writing which was not the case earlier. This would give help them create clear distinction between their work time and personal time.
I believe a client must be held accountable towards their new realizations #coaching #worklifebalance #workingfromhome and new patterns and therefore, in this case we devised a buddy system where the client’s sibling would help them with their checklist and check-up on them on a regular basis.
Regular #affirmations and #meditation was also suggested by me to the client so that they would be less critical of themselves and be able to enjoy the process and journey of writing.
